PRAY FOR HAITI - 40 DAYS OF PRAYER - DAY 28

2 Chronicles 7:14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

After humbling themselves the next thing God implores his people to do is to pray. This is not a prayer of thanksgiving nor is it a prayer of supplication (asking God for stuff); it’s a prayer of repentance. There needs to be a revival of repentance in our Haitian Churches in Haiti and abroad. Not just gathering for week night services as we sometimes do and dress in white to symbolize purity whereas our hearts are dark and far removed from God. No, this is a profound cleansing of the heart and soul because of a grieved spirit that expresses itself in your emotions. You deeply regret what you have done. You are remorseful; you apologize profusely and beg for forgiveness. You think to yourself and say: “I can’t believe those words came out of my mouth, what was I thinking using such filthy language, entertaining such evil thoughts, telling lies to myself and others and believing them; I can’t believe I was involved in such an wicked and disgusting acts. With a sense of urgency you cry out, Lord please forgive me! This is not an exercise you perform simply with your lips my friends; it’s a deep emotion that proceeds from the core of your soul deep within your spirit and sometimes its accompanied with uncontrollable tears and whaling as if you are mourning the death of a loved one. You acknowledged that you’ve committed an egregious act against the one who loved you the most.
Repentance also leads to action. Act 26:20 … repent and turn to God, performing deeds appropriate to repentance. Your actions, your works and lifestyle must show proof that you have changed. It means you have turned around from the direction you were going. If you used to steal, you don’t steal anymore, if you used to curse, you don’t curse anymore. You live to please and honor God with your life whatever the cost may be. Imagine the transformation Haiti would undergo if the Haitian churches would repent of their sins. Imagine the effect they would have on their communities if people saw this kind of transformation in their lives. The healing of the land begins when God’s people repent and pray. Tonight let us pray that a true and lasting repentance would grip the hearts of the Haitian churches in Haiti and abroad.
